We travel the world and this trip is our favorite trip ever!Posted onVerified Experience of a lifetime Most people have ‘Safari’ on their bucket list, and realising one of them is always very satisfying. At Shepherd’s Tree Lodge we were assisted wonderfully to make the most of our experience. The accommodation is set at the very entrance to the Game Reserve and there are several levels of accommodation available. The staff and guides are all very friendly and the setting is superb. It’s not for the feint hearted though as the days are typically very long - as in a 4.30 wake up call for the morning drive through the Reserve, and bed by 9 pm after the evening drive. We managed 4 out of the ‘big 5’ with only the leopard eluding us. The Reserve is light on lion, but plentiful on everything else. The food is great and the addition of hot water bottles and blankets in the jeep to ward off the early morning cold are both a major plus. If anything is due criticism - the general areas around Reception and the Waterhole Bar area are I sufficiently light at night, considering the number of steps around. Also, if anything major breaks down in your room (shower handles falling off) it seemed that few spares were kept on site and ours was only rectified the day before we left. Our guide Thabo was exceptional as he had the eyes of a peregrine and the knowledge of Einstein when it came to spotting game and telling us all about them. You’ll most probably really enjoy your stay here - just pace yourself as it could get very tiring 😎Posted onVerified 3day game reserve South African Safari. Totally amazing !! First class’s experience. Would thoroughly recommend. From the minute we arrived the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The accommodation was beautiful and clean. Rooms serviced twice a day. Food was al a carte and excellent. Great choice and quality. Game drives were incredible. We saw everything on our 3 day trip ( 6 game drives) our game drive tracker was called Gold and he was so knowledgeable, friendly, funny and professional. A perfect location for an amazing few days. The only minor downside ( not the Hotels fault) was the flight arrival time as we had to wait a few hours for our room to be ready. We had drinks in the bar but had to go in for lunch wearing our travel clothes without a freshen up. We had been travelling for 24hours. The rest of our experience certainly made up for it. Our welcome was incredible, what a team, the signing and dancing and kindness, set the tone for our stay. The facilities are impressive and spotless. The service was fantastic, nothing was ever too much trouble. The game drives were extraordinary, our guide / ranger was Helen, who is not only a wonderful person but also has incredible knowledge of the reserve and the animals that inhabit it and she articulates this so well.
